the yellow wallpaper

This story is written in the times when men took care of everything,  women were obedient to their husbands and they did not work much. I say this because it struck me that she had to ask him for permission to do certain things. While reading this I thought maybe the wife was going through postpartum depression because she mentioned a baby and she was unable to take care of it but then as the story was going along it seemed to be something a little bit more deeper so I thought it was anxiety but the more focused she became with the wallpaper its seemed to me that she might be schizophrenic. I believe her fixation on the wallpaper and that to her it was a woman was maybe a fixture of herself being close in especially by her husband because she does everything he says she's unable to get out she says something about how the design pattern is like a gate so I feel that that's her in the wallpaper and she's unable to come out because her husband does everything, he has her on around the clock watch, he tells her what she can and what she cannot do. So her fixation on the wallpaper is her wanting to be free.

  1. as i read this story i felt majority of the same feelings, as for her being trapped and the wallpaper was her outlet. i didnt seem to realize when this was written men did out power woman thats where what you mentioned made sence, her having to ask her husband's permission to do anything kind of resembles the relationship to be that way. but then you have the other point of view where people may argue her asking permission is not her asking her husband its her asking her doctor so i think that part of your statement is debateable depending on how you looking at the situation. i also look at the wallpaper as her outlet. she is fixcated on the wall paper because she feels like it (trapped) this might be another reason why she wanted to get out of there.
